Alaska Bound

Meet Alaska, a bi-annual bookazine featuring the best of contemporary photography. Acting as a gallery space in book form, Alaska is limited to unpublished works. Each issue is unique and equally as stunning. For this issue the publication is quarter-bound in lush velvet with gold edged pages and featuring the work of Edward Burtynsky, Noel McLaughlin and Christoffer Rudquist. It's like hitting the gold rush.

Loving Tom Gallo's geometric collages. I especially like his layered oceanscapes.

Editor & Art Director

I'd like to introduce you to my new crush E&A – The Glossy Zine by Studio Von Birken. We're going steady. Yes, it's true. I'm completely obsessed with magazines.

Founded way back in 2004, the magazine focuses on art, pop and fashion (both high and low) and is published bi-annually. Filled with enough beautiful type and photography to keep anyone inspired, E&A is pure design genius. Hands off.

Globe Trotter

Hey lads, get out your spirt fingers for the French label April 77. I'm really loving these man-panchos and navajo inspired prints. Hotness squared. If I was in Paris right this second, I would definitely head to their flagship store and snatch one of these pieces for myself – forget the boys, these would be perfect in my wardrobe. Just grab me a VW van and a road map to New Mexico. Let's do this. Tally ho!

Playground Love

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE DAY MARLENE MARINO

All the beautiful people live in Marlene Marino's photos. Influenced by Nouvelle Vague film, and the avant-guard photo movement of 70’s Japan, Marlene's work is a nostalgic look into a private space. I am very inspired by her touching photography. They feel like stills from The Virgin Suicides. Dreamy. And one can dream, right?

Funny People

ILLUSTRATION OF THE DAY WILL BRYANT

No way, I also love nice people who make cool things (we have so much in common). Will "Mr. Fancy Pant" Bryant makes stuff because if he doesn't, he gets sad. I'd be sad too because his work makes me laugh. A lot. So why not have a look at his awesome work here and here. Do it.

I'm taking a ride with my best friend

ROAD TRIP

The Island Highway #19 between Nanaimo and Parksville is best traveled when listening to 90's rock. Throw in a little Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins and you have yourself a time machine. The road is a long stretch of asphalt dotted with cheap motels, RV trailers and bizarre places to get your hair cut. Fill up at the Husky gas station and take a ride – sexy mud flaps optional. Here are a few photos I snapped along the way.

One Sue Three

ILLUSTRATION OF THE DAY IT TAKES SUE TO TANGO

I'm trying desperately to not get a tooth ache from Sue Doeksen's simply adorable illustrations. I love them. Talk about cute overload. Her website is filled with awesome little dudes – my favourite being the flying Chiquita banana girl. Happy Monday y'all may it be a sweet one.

Hypnotized

I might be hypnotized. It's official. Not in the Notorious B.I.G. way but in the, "Oh great I am clucking like a chicken way". Check out dvdp's striking graphic animations. You'll have to go on their site to see these in full effect. They are so Twilight Zone cool. Promise.

Leather & Lace

I am a big fan of Natalia Brilli's buttery leather covered objects. I was first introduced to her accessories awhile go when working on a fashion editorial with the super talented Rad. We had a few of her pieces on set and I might have drooled on one of them.

I think everyone should own a black leather skateboard. I'm not even kidding. But for me, it's all about the drum set. I takes The Muppet Show's Animal to the next level. Natalia also makes incredible handbags with the contents of the bag cleverly embossed in the leather (think sunglasses, coins and credit cards). I can't wait to see what's next for the Belgian designer.

PS You can have a boo at the photo shoot on Natalia's website – just check the 2009 press portion et volia. We're right next to my peeps at The Block magazine. Word up!
